DAP sticks to Lim Su Kien for Miri

KUCHING: State DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) is sticking to its decision in picking Senadin DAP branch chairperson Lim Su Kien as its candidate for Miri in the coming 13th general election.

State DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen said a meeting held last Monday endorsed the nomination of Lim even though some members in Miri were unhappy with the decision.

“I call upon our Miri comrades to put aside personal feelings and prejudices, and to fully support the party’s decision.
Nobody should question the wisdom of the CEC,” Chong told a press conference here yesterday.

Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said Lim was chosen for her commitment to the party, her organisational skills and political maturity.

He said nobody is perfect and no decision could be agreed upon by everyone all the time. Everyone has his or her strengths and weaknesses.

“It’s time to stay together to fight BN parties and give the people here a choice to go forward to strengthen the two-party system in our country.”

Lim, 39, lost in the 2008 general election when she faced Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. Before joining the DAP in 2008, she worked in the banking industry for over 12 years.

Meanwhile, Chong said the DAP would have an ‘Ubah Night’ at BDC commercial centre tomorrow, starting at 6.30pm. Local DAP leaders and some from the peninsula would be present.
