Masing insists on Salang, Wong thinks otherwise

KUCHING: Julau incumbent Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum is almost certain to contest in the constituency this coming general election.

Salang from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has the party’s confidence of winning the seat.

“I still believe that Salang can still win Julau seat,” said party president Tan Sri Dr James Masing yesterday in his SMS.

He said this in response to Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat who said on Friday, when debating Head of State’s address at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), that voters in Julah wanted Salang be replaced in the coming election.

Among others, Wong was quoted as saying that he as voter in Julau and on behalf of the people in the parliamentary constituency wanted a local as the candidate.

“That’s Wong Judat’s personal opinion,” Masing said.

Wong should put personal feelings aside and must support Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election, he added.

It was reported yesterday that the party has re-nominated all its incumbent members of parliament, except for Hulu Rajang where the party leadership has nominated Wilson Ugak Kumbong. Hulu Rajang is held by Datuk Billy Abit Joo.

Other PRS incumbents are William Nyallau Badak (Lubok Antu), Masir Kujat (Sri Aman), Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang (Kanowit), and Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun (Selangau), besides Salang and Abit.
